Why Six Asian Delegates May Miss Miss Universe 2026
Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Laos are caught in a dispute over the Miss Universe franchises. Here's what's known so far.

Six Southeast Asian countries may have no delegate on stage in San Juan, because of a public dispute between rival groups within the Miss Universe organization. Here's what's been reported, as of November 3, 2026.
Who is affected
The countries are Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Their national franchises are reported to be held by Nawat Itsaragrisil.
What each side says
Ronald Day, described in reports as the organization's chief executive, announced that the six would be excluded and that restrictions would remain until the competition ends. Itsaragrisil and the group known as MU East reject that, and they insist the delegates remain entitled to compete. MU East also disputes the authority behind some of the agreements for the Puerto Rico event, while saying it doesn't intend to disrupt or cancel it.
Puerto Rico's government has also stepped in, reportedly sending a cease-and-desist letter over claims about public funds and the pageant. We couldn't independently verify either side's claims, and the reports conflict on some of the details.
Will the pageant still happen?
Yes, as far as anyone has said. Both sides have indicated that the 75th edition is going ahead on November 24. We'll update this story if anything changes, and our contestants list reflects the latest names we've seen.
How to watch if your country isn't competing
The final will still be on air for fans in the region. See the guides for Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
